Bali to Komodo, the Long Way
This one leaves from Bali and sails east through Sumbawa. Two of the five days are passage — that is the trade, and it buys islands nobody flies to.
Five days from Bali gets you into Komodo on day four. It is a passage itinerary with a park finale, not a Komodo trip with extra days.
- Roughly 300 nautical miles of sea between Bali and Labuan Bajo.
- Days one to three are Sumbawa: Moyo, Satonda and open water.
- Disembarkation is in Labuan Bajo, so you fly home from there.
Five days, east
One direction only. You board in Bali and leave from Flores.
One-way itineraries mean two separate flights: into Denpasar, out of Labuan Bajo. Book them as a multi-city fare rather than a return.
Moyo and Satonda earn their place
The stops between Bali and Komodo are the argument for this itinerary. Moyo has waterfalls and pools you walk to from the beach; Satonda is a volcanic crater holding a saltwater lake with no outlet to the sea. Neither has an airport, a ferry terminal or a day-trip market, which is precisely the point.
If you only want Komodo, fly to Labuan Bajo and take three or four nights there instead. This route is for the passage.
What two days at sea are like
Worth knowing before you book, because it is the part nobody photographs.
Open water
Outside the island chain there is nothing to shelter behind. Calmer in the dry months, never glassy.
Seasickness
More relevant here than on a Labuan Bajo trip. Take something before you feel you need it, not after.
Slow hours
Long stretches with no stop. Bring what you would bring to a train journey, and expect no signal.
No connectivity
Coverage disappears between islands. Tell people before you leave rather than from the boat.
Two airports
In via Denpasar, out via Labuan Bajo. A multi-city ticket is usually cheaper than two singles.

Komodo, compressed into two days
Arriving on day four leaves one full day and one morning inside the park. That is enough for a dragon trek, Pink Beach and the Padar sunrise — the headline set — and not enough for Manta Point on a good tide, the northern dive sites, or repeating anything. Go in knowing that, and the itinerary delivers exactly what it promises.

Does this really sail from Bali?
Yes. Unlike the three-day itinerary, which boards in Labuan Bajo, this one leaves from Benoa or Serangan and crosses roughly 300 nautical miles east.
How much of it is Komodo?
One full day and one morning. Days one to three are the crossing and the Sumbawa stops. If the park is your only interest, this is the wrong itinerary.
Is the crossing rough?
It is open water outside the island chain, so it moves more than a park itinerary does. April to October is materially more comfortable than the wet season.
Do I fly home from Bali?
No. It is one-way: you disembark in Labuan Bajo and fly out from Komodo Airport. Book a multi-city ticket.
Can it run in reverse?
Often, yes — operators reposition vessels in both directions. Ask, because a westbound leg sometimes prices differently.
